Are Federal Regulations Looming for Assisted Living Providers Serving Medicaid Residents?

02/22/2018 Written by: AP Senior Living Risk Management Solutions

A Government Accountability Office (GAO) Report released in January found that a review of half of the 48 states providing Medicaid assisted living services were unable to provide information related to critical resident incidents. This has resulted in a recommendation that Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) engage to improve state reporting.

Forty-eight states monitor the following events: physical assault, emotional abuse and sexual assault/abuse; then there is a drop off in other types of events requiring reporting. The GAO goes on to further recommend standards should be established by CMS for all states to annually report key information on critical incidents to CMS.
