CSA Crash Scores Update

06/23/2020 Written by: Andy Engardio

Great news for motor carriers - the FMCSA’s Crash Preventability Determination Program (CPDP) will be pulling “Not Preventable Crashes” out of your CSA scores! Motor carriers participating in the CPDP will see their Safety Measurement System (SMS) information change within 60 days after the agency’s determinations.
The FMCSA will continue to list all crashes on the SMS website, however, crashes determined to be “Not Preventable” through the CPDP will appear in a separate table titled, “Reviewed - Not Preventable Crashes.” In addition, crashes found to be “Not Preventable” by the CPDP will not be included in the carrier's Crash Indicator Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category (BASIC) measure and percentile.
Do you have a “Not Preventable Crash?” Here are the eligibility guidelines for the 16 crash types. These include:

  • Animal Strikes
  • Hit While Parked or Stopped
  • Crossing the Center Line

At AssuredPartners Transportation, we recommend all motor carriers take the time to DataQ all eligible crashes. We are focused on improving our clients’ Safety Event Grouping. To learn what you can do to help improve your safety program, contact our team of transportation specialists.
